Tips to keep your home cool this summer!

As the weather heats up, you may look for all the help you need to keep your home cool!
Well, don’t stress, we have you sorted. Along with our fabulous range of products, we have listed some handy tips below to assist you with keeping cool, calm and collected all season long.

1. Open your mind to the power of windows!

Focus on moving air through your house by making the airflow in one side and out the other. In bedrooms with two windows, you can do this by aiming a fan out a window and letting fresh air flow through the other window. For rooms with only one window, keep the door open to allow a cross breeze to form from elsewhere in the house, keeping your home as breezy and fresh as can be.

Try it and let us know how you go!

 2. Add blinds or curtains to your rooms

It goes without saying that one of our fabulous cooling appliances will do the trick, however adding curtains or blinds to your home will help the harsh summer sun at bay, especially for north and west-facing windows.

Keep your curtains and blinds closed during the day so the heat doesn't linger into the night. This way, you will be able to cool down quickly when you eventually hit the hay.

 3. Find where the hot air is coming in

Many people don’t realise how many small cracks and holes exist in the home which can contribute to a raised temperature (on average, the number of cracks add up to the size of a basketball!) The space around windows, door frames, crawl spaces and even around recessed lights are common culprits for letting hot air in, so make sure you cover these up so you can lower the temp and keep the heat away this summer.

 4. Insulation is key year-round

The law of thermodynamics means heat flows from a hotter place to a cooler place, so ensuring your home is well insulated can save you money. Correctly insulated homes reduce the chance of heat seeping inside (which can make your air conditioner work much harder than usual) Therefore, adding proper insulation to the walls of your home should be a top priority to save you money and make your home more comfortable whatever the weather.

5. Choose the right bed linen

Consider swapping out your cotton or jersey-style sheets for linen or percale. Percale sheets are made of cotton, but they're known for that crisp, cool feeling when you slide into them. Linen sheets are also a great option as they are breathable which means warm air won't get trapped next to your body while you sleep.

We spend over a third of our lives in bed, so don't skimp on good quality bed sheets!

So there you have it, 5 tips to help you stay as cool as can be this summer. Pair these handy ideas with a Dimplex cooling product and you’ll never have to sweat about your home’s temperature ever again!
